As we mentioned in our first AP M&A Snapshot post, M&A activity levels have been improving over the course of the last several quarters. Today, we would like to highlight four key themes that have been driving M&A activity recently. They are:
1. Voice is just another application
2. Advertising is the new purchase price
3. Online video communication as common as voice and text
4. Location awareness is essential
All four of these themes promise to have dramatic ramifications on the internet, mobile and digital media sectors and are in the very early stages of playing out. The table below categorizes 17 recent transactions occurring since the beginning of Q4 2009 (only the past four months) where the core strategic rationale falls within these four areas.
